On the basis of the analyses of phytoplankton physiology and bio-optics,this paper proposes that the CFE(chloro- phyll fluorescence efficiency)algorithm is not a precision appreach to estimation of fluorescence quantum yield(FQY)by using moderate resolution imaging spectrometer(MODIS)data,and then presents the algorithm,a new MODIS algo- rithm for more accurate estimation of FQY.
